Off Liberty street and in the heart of Sumter, Swan Lake/Iris Gardens is home to all eight known species of swan in the world. Visitors will meander around a looped dirt path that is even, shady and well-marked. The path winds around a small lake, over foot bridges and near grassy areas where walking or picnicking on the grass is permitted. Visitors are also encouraged to bring bread to feed the waterfowl. Picnic tables, benches and restrooms dot the trail and at the main entrance near the parking lot there is also the Iris Market where refreshments can be bought, restrooms, playground and Visitor’s Center. The trail is wheelchair, stroller or wagon friendly. There are many events that take place at Swan Lake, the most popular being the Iris Fest on Memorial weekend.

This tag game requires a court with lines on it; a basketball or volleyball positions is ideal. All players, including the original “It”, can only move along the lines on the court. Any player who steps off is out. This tag game is easily paired with freeze tag to add another layer of gameplay.
Why is this such a big deal? It’s crucial because you use your body as a whole in any athletic movement you are doing. The core is the central portion of that movement. The strength or weakness of the core can dictate how well you do with those movements. Whether you are on the court, the ice, or field of some sort, the relative strength of your core can play a large role in how well you can perform. Consider this, as well, that many of your movements athletically are not done in a perfectly set and ready position. More often than not, you are reacting, so you may be jumping, diving, or performing an action unbalanced. Again, the efficiency that you can perform these actions depends very heavily on your core strength.
